Is My Baby Satiated and Getting Enough Nutrition?

north jersey doulas is my baby satiated and getting enough nutrition

In the first six weeks of life, the average baby consumes between one and three ounces, sometimes four. I've worked with the occasional baby that consumes a little more than that during that time period, but never less.

To know how much is enough milk for a healthy well nourished baby, you should know what to expect starting from birth and going forward on dirty diapers. There should be one wet diaper and one poop diaper from the birth day and that number should go up each passing day from birth to four days. After the fourth day, a baby should have 6-8 dirty diapers (a quarter size poop still counts as poop!).

A red flag on if your baby is not getting enough milk is if they don't gain back their birth weight within the first two weeks and should then be brought to their provider to develop an eating plan.
