Intercourse After Having a Baby?

north jersey doulas intercourse after having a baby

It's recommended to avoid sex until you've been seen by your provider at your six week follow up appointment after birth and usually your provider gives the go ahead then (even though you might not feel ready at that point- then don't!).

Sex will most likely not be comfortable on your first go round post baby and may still be a bit sore and tender so be sure to take it slow.

It can be helpful to use lubrication because it will significantly reduce discomfort and pain caused by vaginal dryness which is common due to hormones. Feel free to experiment with water based or gel-based lubricants to see which works best for you.

Remember, once you start having sex again, you can still get pregnant so be sure to review which birth control options might be right for you at your follow up appointment. There are a plethora of options such as the pill, an IUD, condoms, diaphragms, cervical caps, spermicide and sponges.
