Perinatal Mood Disorders and Physical Postpartum Issues

Postpartum red flags can come in many different ways whether it be physically, emotionally, or mentally.

Some examples of physical red flags could be painful urination, heavy bleeding or a fever. Even more severe could be heart failure, blood clots or aneurysms, postpartum hemorrhage, or postpartum pre-eclampsia. If any of these symptoms arise contact your provider right away or get to your nearest hospital.

A common red flag symptom in terms of mental health might be something like excessive worry. Again, this would be something worthy of contacting your provider about so they can help you to better assess your feelings and which course of action to take if any.

It's totally normal to have some level of the "baby blues" as you're not only emotional from having a child, but your hormones are also all over the place. "Baby blues" can last up to two weeks. Should you feel like your emotions just aren't letting up beyond that time period, seek help. Your provider should be able to refer you to a therapist who specializes in #perinatalmooddisorders
